Summer Holidays 2012: DAY 4 – Tuesday 24th July
Achievements: getting out of bed early! Rocking up to the gym to see Gary ( my old youth worker) and succeeding in discussing his latest project whilst in a jacuzzi…
Succeeding in getting the Werrington Brownies involved in my HIP2B SQUARE PROJECT in September…
Meeting Emily in town for tea and talks. Planning future HIP2B SQUARE days in town, flyering slightly for my vegetarian group, deciding on dates for summer camping, planning the entire weekend which is now filled with craft fayres, wool spinning classes ( which I am very excited about!) vintage and antique fairs and bbqs in the sun…. 🙂
Going for a walk with Sam in the eve before falling asleep far too early before being awoken by my daft crazy barking dog at 5am…
I wonder what today will bring. 🙂
We’ll just have to see… 🙂
So.. I work in a school. Usually. Sometimes i just knit. But i digress… Working in a school means lots of good things. I get to be part of childrens education, i get to do fun things like facepainting, i get to see a (sometimes) totally different perspective on life. Bu most importantly to me right now is that i get SIX weeks holiday 🙂
Im determined to ensure that i dont waste them either. When i had summer holidays when i was younger the days sort of merged together somewhat, bt when i ave weekend times i seem to be able to overfill my time with masses of things i have to do. I shall therefore be treating the nex six weeks as one big weekend. Let me tell you how is gone so far…
Summer Holidays 2012: DAY 1 – Saturday 21st July ( an actual weekend day)
Saturday was the first nice weather we had for a few days which seemed highly appropriate for the first day of the summer holidays. I spend it on a stall selling teacosies, headbands, phone cases etc etc at St Johns Chuch Craft Fair. I did not lose money. This is good. Then Sam and I had a delightful pizza before heading home, from a little tucked away bistro where the staff remembered my order perfectly from my last visit….apparently they dont get many vegans. Weird.
Summer Holidays 2012: DAY 2 – Sunday 22nd July ( also an actual weekend day)
The good weather continues into the new week when Sam and I get up early (to packed sandwiches and crisps-thanks mom!) to get in the bus and drive to BugJam 26 at Santa Pod near northampton
Summer Holidays 2012: DAY 3 – Monday 23rd July ( NOT an actual weekend day…)
Today i succeeded in finishing the rug i was working on from strips of discarded mummy costume..
This was te work in progress on my peg loom. I dont use this enough! It was small pegs on one side and large pegs on te other. Used every other large peg for this project but looking at the loom has made me want to do a thiner just wool based weave 🙂 soon….
So. Everyday I hear you asking ‘Just WHAT do I do with an entire sheets worth of plain white strips of fabric from someones lastyear Mummy Costume!?’ well…. That statement may not be entirely true since no one has EVER asked that in the history of halloween costumes OR mummies…however I do have an answer for you none the less.
Dye them. Weave them. Put them in a bus. Job done.
My beautiful talented amazing creative other half of nearly two months now ( i know, going well) SAM happens to own a rather interesting vintage VW bus (imported from New Mexico and therefore decorated with a DAY OF THE DEAD theme no less) so i figure naturally he need something by Me in it. Im already in the process of crocheting him a skull cushion but hey! Everyone likes rugs.
I found some ather interesting coloured wool at the weekend in a charity shop too which would compliment the dyes I hsve perfectly… But since the strips are currently soaking away i cant quite show u. I CAN however show u the dyes 🙂
Also OOH LOOK WHAT I JUST MADE WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR DYES….
But anyway….Wish me luck amigos.
So….not what I was shooting for…. But what art project ever end up how it was supposed to anyway huh? The dye colours were as follows:
What I seem to have ended up with is….
Varying degrees of pink. Clearly halloween costume sheets arent meant to be dyed. Next time il use all cotton mummy bandages. The plan was to give this rug to Sam but im not 100% sure he’ll enjoy a bright pink rug…i may have to keep this 😉 lols
Anyway… I have knitting to do now so ta ta!
Over and Out x
You know who I hate?
The Bored People. No, Not the boring people. I’m OK with them; someones gotta do the job. If it werent for boring people then the cost of yarn would sky rocket as everyone would want to learn to crochet. No no. The Bored people. The people who throw their hands in the air with overly dramatic frustration, The ones that flounce about and huff onto sofas and sigh and pout and tap and moan. The people who flick aimlessly through television channels and then update their facebook statuses to let everyone know just how dull and uninteresting they’re choosing to make their lives by NOT being productive even a little bit…
How Very Dare You?!
Of all the things you could contribute to society, if all you can manage is a feeble online complaint then I would suggest jumping off a cliff as right now that would be of far more use to the world as it may provide a small amount of entertainment at the very least.
How DARE you waste time? How dare you bare your dull grey existance like a badge of honour on facebook? The world does not owe you entertainment. YOU are the one who owes. So pay your debt and become interesting. Do you know how many hours there are in a day? If your answer was not immediately NOT ENOUGH! you should seriously reconsider what the hell you’re spending all your time doing…
Boredom is what you get when you choose to ignore imagination. Think of boredom as a piece of chewed up gum stuck to the shoe of Life. Tasteless, Colourless, Kinda sucky. Absolutely no use and terrible for the environment….NOW Think of imagination as the Elvis Presley of personality assets. Scores of hits, major success, Thousands and thousands of screaming fans. They didnt call him the King for nothing. But If Elvis has left the building… then we have a problem…
